So last year, my roommate and I found this article on writing a letter to yourself on Valentine's Day expressing your positive attributes and how you feel about yourself. As usual, I became very busy with life and didn't end up doing. So this year, I decided that I must write the letter. I discovered this may be more difficult than I assumed, but I will still attempt it, if only to prove to myself that I can do it. So here it goes.
Dear Jules,
Valentine's Day: a day that you show your love to a significant person in your life in the cheesiest ways possible. Or for others, this day is known as Single's Awareness Day, when people either own the fact that they are single or they become more aware of how alone they are. For me, none of these titles for February 14th ring true. I believe that love should be shared and expressed every day, no matter what Hallmark says. Valentine's Day is a time that I realize how much love I have in my life and how much love I have to give. Especially with all the changes over the past few years, I have discovered that I truly have amazing friends who love me unconditionally and I love them even more. I have also learned to love myself, wholeheartedly. Though, this year I am single, I am not lonely and I am not saddened by this day. Today, I celebrate the love that surrounds me, in every way, including my love for you.
You are amazing. You are beautiful, caring, wonderful woman with a big heart and an open mind. You have been through so much in the past few years, a roller coaster of emotions and experiences, and you have continued to push through, succeed and survive. You are adventurous in every way and a little bit crazy to move to New York City by yourself, knowing no one. But you are striving, meeting new people and finding your place there. You are passionate, loving and ready for any challenge that comes. You truly see the good in everyone and the positive in every event and this optimism is admirable. As many have said you can act like a five year old, a 12 year old, a 23 year old and a 30 year old all at the same time. Even though some days, you might be a bit emotional or a little quirky or even over think things too much, you are unique and magnificent. You will accomplish marvelous things in your life and you will help people, in a career that you love more than anything. You have your flaws, but you are aware of them and you are constantly pushing yourself to be the best you can be. You are brilliant and one of the kindest people I know. No matter what happens in life, you will always have me, supporting and loving everything about you.
